There are ten exciting choices ranging from
kayaking, sailing and SCUBA to a hike or bike ride
and restoration event. If you plan to participate
in one, please read the following descriptions to
find out locations, activities, time of departure
from Asilomar and fees before completing your
registration form.

Monterey Bay Whale Watching Trip
8:00 a.m. -- 1:45 p.m.
Registered Participant Packet
Take advantage of the unique opportunity to view
the diverse inhabitants of the Monterey Bay
during our 2.5 to 3 hour cruise aboard the 100
foot Princess Monterey. During the summer
months, the nutrient rich water attracts a
variety of magnificent marine mammals. Humpback,
fin, minke and orca whales all feed here as well
as the mighty blue. Large pods of
porpoises and dolphins also frequent the
Monterey Bay. Perhaps you’ll be one of the
lucky ones to spot an occasional leatherback sea
turtle or sunfish. The cruise ends at
noon. The bus will depart from Fisherman’s
Wharf at 1:30 p.m. allowing for time for shopping, snacks
or sightseeing. This tour is open to people of
all ages. The boat can accommodate only
100 passengers. All ages are welcome.
Only advance tickets
will be sold.
Tickets:
$60 per person. Bus transportation from Asilomar

The Wine Trolley
11:00 a.m. -- 4:00 p.m.
Registered Participant Packet
The Wine Trolley offers an all inclusive wine
tasting tour. This five-hour scenic excursion
will take you to complimentary tasting at five
venues. The bus will drive through Steinbeck’s
Pastures of Heaven, over Laureles Grade and into
the valley to a handful of tasting rooms in
Carmel Valley Village. You’ll visit Bernardus
Vineyards, Heller Estate Organic Vineyards,
Parsonage Vineyards, Chateau Sinnet and Joullian
Vineyards. This tour is open to 24 participants
and will depart from Asilomar Conference
Grounds.
Participants
must
be over 21 years of age.
Tickets:
$100. Trolley transportation from Asilomar,
wine, gratuity and box lunch are included.

Sailing on the
Bay
9:00 a.m. --
1:45 p.m.
Registered Participant Packet
Come aboard the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s 65 foot
sailboat, Derek M. Baylis, for a
scientific sail around the Monterey Bay. On
each three hour cruise, you will get a chance to
closely observe some of the creatures that
inhabit the bay as you assist Aquarium
naturalists. Try your hand at collecting
plankton, sampling the ocean bottom and
investigating the tiny critters that float among
the drift kelp. Along the way, you might even
get the chance to see harbor seals, sea lions or
sea otters! The cruise will end with a gentle
sail following the coastline. Explore the
natural wonders of the Monterey Bay National
Marine Sanctuary as few do and get a close-up
view of this incredibly rich and diverse
ecosystem! Each
cruise
is limited to 20 participants.
Children must be 8 or
older and accompanied by a paid adult. All
participants must be able to walk down a flight
of stairs and step up onto the vessel.

Point Lobos Guided Hike

Artist Francis McComas described Point Lobos as
“the greatest meeting of land and water in the
world.” This beautiful state reserve is truly
breathtaking. It is home to rare species of
plants, unique geological formations and a
variety of animal life, both terrestrial and
marine. The reserve is named after the lobos marinos (Spanish for sea lions) that rest on the
rocks along the coast in the park. Join us for
a one-hour guided hike and exploration while
learning not only about the natural history, but
the rich cultural history of this park, which is
often called the “the crown jewel of the CA
State Park System.”
This tour is open to 20 participants of all
ages.

Elkhorn Slough Kayak Trip
8:00 a.m. -- 1:45 p.m.
Registered Participant Packet
Would you like to kayak past playful sea otters,
resting Harbor seals and diving pelicans? If so,
join us for a paddle in the Elkhorn Slough
National Estuarine Reserve.
The Slough is a refuge and feeding ground for
many species of migratory birds, fish and marine
mammals. Led by professional kayak guides from
Monterey Bay Kayaks, you will enjoy an
exhilarating trip and learn about the natural
history and ecology of the slough,
the second
largest tidal salt marsh in the state and
part of the Monterey Bay National Marine
Sanctuary. It’s located a half hour north of
Asilomar Conference Grounds.
Previous kayaking experience is not necessary.
Tour is open to 50 participants. Participants
must be over 14 years old.
Tickets:
$75 per person. Tour includes all kayak gear and
professional guides. Bus transportation from Asilomar and box lunch are included.

Tall Ship Sail
Morning Sail 9:00 a.m. -- 1:45 p.m.

Join the crew of “Call of the Sea,” aboard a
traditional 82’ sailing vessel for a three hour
cruise in the Monterey Bay. You will gain a
whole new perspective as you learn about
California coastal history; practice navigation
and seamanship; and explore the unique
environment of the Monterey Bay. Aboard the
large steel staysail schooner you will have an
exciting hands-on experience. You will learn
what it takes to get the vessel underway, raise
the sails, set the course, and assist with
sailing and steering the ship. You will also
spend time observing wildlife and take water
quality samples. Space is limited to 35
participants of all ages.
